How it works in New York City
- Most affordable rentals in New York City are offered by lottery on NYC Housing Connect, the city's official application site.
- You apply online before the deadline. After it closes, each application gets a random log number and applicants are reviewed in that order.
- Every lottery has its own income limits by household size and its own rents. Some units are set aside, for example for people with disabilities or for residents of the local community board.
- Apply once per lottery: a second application from the same household can be disqualified.
The official site is NYC Housing Connect. Its rules decide; check them before you apply.
