Affordable housing in Charleston

• The Housing Authority of the City of Charleston opens the waitlists of its properties one at a time, sometimes for only a few hours on one day, and posts each window on its Join Our Waitlist page ahead of time.
• You register on its online applicant portal first, then apply during the window. No applications by mail, fax or email.
• These are waitlists, not lotteries: rent is set from income, and the housing authority contacts applicants as units come open.
• We check the housing authority's page every hour and link each notice. Between windows the city shows nothing open.

The official site is Housing Authority of the City of Charleston. Its rules decide.
